Brief

"Healthier, Stronger, Happier!"

HEing is an app designed to help individuals who suffer from emotional eating achieve a healthier and happier life. The app incorporates three key features: a treatment method combined with technology, a friendly and positive social platform, and a scientific record platform. These features collectively aim to guide users towards a healthier lifestyle and overall well-being.View the prototype here.

Project
Background

I and my team member undertook an end-to-end UX/UI design project with the objective of identifying and addressing the prevailing pain points experienced by users. Our aim was to develop a comprehensive solution that would assist individuals suffering from emotional eating in attaining a healthier and more fulfilling lifestyle.

My Role

  • Researcher

  • UX/UI Designer

  • Video editor

My Responsibilities

  • Carrying out interviews, surveys data collection methods to gather information from participants.

  • Examining and interpreting collected data using various quantitative and qualitative analysis techniques to identify patterns, trends, and key findings.

  • Conducting usability tests and user experience evaluations to assess the effectiveness and usability of the app's features and interface.

  • Ensuring research is conducted ethically and following established guidelines and regulations for data protection and participant consent.

  • Gathering feedback from users and experts and using it to inform iterative improvements and refinements to the app's design and functionality.

  • Utilizing video editing software to assemble and edit video footage, including cutting, trimming, and arranging clips to create a cohesive narrative.

Problem Statement (Initial)

"When a young Australian adult wants to control their emotional eating within a short period of time at night, how can technology help him?"

  • What techniques are available to assist in managing emotional eating?

  • What are some specific and effective physical treatments that can help with addressing emotional eating?

  • What are some specific and effective mental treatments that can help with addressing emotional eating?

Research

The target group for this study comprises young adults aged 18-25 in Australia. The research methodology employed involves a combination of qualitative and quantitative approaches, including the use of questionnaires, interviews, and online ethnography. A total of 104 questionnaires and 20 interviews were collected to gather comprehensive data for analysis.

Insights

  1. Prevalence and Impact: It is observed that a considerable number of young individuals engage in emotional eating as a coping mechanism for dealing with negative emotions and stress.

  2. Triggers and Emotional Instability: Social and academic stress, anxiety, and other negative emotions play a crucial role in triggering emotional eating behaviors among young people.

  3. Health Consequences:

  • Emotional eating among young individuals contributes to weight problems and can be associated with other eating disorders such as anorexia nervosa.

  • Emotional eating is often linked to mental health issues such as depression, creating a complex interplay between emotional well-being and physical health.

Reflection

The findings from the research have guided the development of my app's functionalities, ensuring that they directly meet the pain points identified among the users. By incorporating simple and effective exercise and music therapy, the app aims to support users in diverting their attention from emotional eating. The inclusion of active and user-friendly social platforms fosters mental well-being, while the recording diet system platform provides users with valuable insights into their habits. Furthermore, the implementation of a medal-based incentive system encourages and motivates users to maintain healthy eating habits. I am humbled by the opportunity to create an app that addresses these important needs and supports users in their journey towards improved well-being.
